CAPA Theatre & School Building Renovations at Milliones
The challenge was to design for the building to house what are essentially three distinct programs; a K-8th grade program, early childcare program, and Rogers School’s Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) (6-8th grade) program. Each was to share the facility but function as separate schools. Since the existing facility was used primarily as a middle school, it was to be used to provide space for each of the three academic programs. A new addition was to house the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) program.
CAPA’s main entry is at the first floor, where there would be a new 450 seat theater with state of the art equipment for student performances. Included were a new Dance Studio and an Art Gallery, with the new dressing rooms, green room, and stage set craft shop. The basement floor will contained the Costume Studio, Multimedia Studio, large storage spaces and the mechanical rooms. The second floor featured Balcony Theater Seating, theater Control Rooms with access to new lighting catwalks, Art Rooms, and the entire music department with orchestra, choir, and musical practice rooms. This project was canceled after completion of construction documents due to a school district change in program.
