Freedom Corner Monument Design
- Owner: Freedom Corner Monument Committee
- Location: Hill District, Pittsburgh, PA
This project was a design-build effort let by firm president, Howard Graves. Work included coordinating the artwork, granite procurement, design, and construction management.
Freedom Corner, the intersection of Center Avenue and Crawford Street, serves as the gateway from downtown Pittsburgh to the city’s oldest urban neighborhood. Since the 1960’s this location has served as a platform for organizing protests, marches, demonstrations, and celebrations to promote racial equality.
Among the major elements of the monument is its Spiritual Form, cast in bronze. The inner stone below it was sourced from a quarry in Zimbabwe.
