Pittsburgh School Board lacked feeder pattern Middle School capacity in the north section of the city. Our firm was retained to provide comprehensive A/E services for the adaptive re-use of a 45,000 S.F. 3-story masonry colonial revival building to provide the additional student capacity. The program requirements included: a complete educational space for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades; incorporation of state of the art communication technology; new mechanical and electrical systems; new fire alarm systems; and an integrated security and door monitoring system.

The design objective was to demonstrate sensitivity to, not only the functional requirements, but also the immediate neighborhood and historical and aesthetic character of the existing structure.

Site issues included security, multiple overlapping play areas and school bus service.
