This was the largest Green Roof in the city of Pittsburgh when completed. The project helped establish Graves Design Group as a leader in sustainability design. As part of their commitment to a healthier environment, HighMark wanted to transform a routine roof repair into a green opportunity for building users, neighbors and the city of Pittsburgh. The project improves thermal insulation to reduced costs for heating and cooling the building. The 21,060 square-foot, L-shaped roof deck is at the fourth level and visible to most people in neighboring buildings. Now they will see green habitation and biodiversity. The entire city benefits with healthier air and cleaner storm water.
We effectively explored different options and chose the best solution that offers an open urban rooftop green space to promote habitation and biodiversity, with a sensitive design aesthetic within budget goals.
