Sustainibility,
Interior Design, LEED Platinum
The project includes a new LEED Platinum Certified, 8,000 sf interior office suite for the Sports & Exhibition authority of Pittsburgh, in an area of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center that was left unoccupied for future development. The office program contains a mixture of private and open offices, as well as a lounge, two conference rooms, restrooms, and gallery space to exhibit Pittsburgh’s first-class sports, entertainment, recreational, and convention venues.
The was very linear with day light only on one side of the office. Designing private offices with a window meant a majority of the suite would be blinded from natural day light. We designed a majority of the offices on the opposite side of the glass walls, and used a combination of light shelves, glazing and reflective surfaces to bring in natural lighting throughout the offices. The window wall was left open for circulation and Gallery space, allowing for the daylight and views of Penn Avenue to be shared throughout.
The David L. Lawrence Convention Center was the only convention center in the world with LEED certifications in new construction -GOLD- and existing building Platinum. It was important that our project met those standards. Therefore, the new office suites feature sustainable elements to decrease water consumption, optimize energy performance in the HVAC and Lighting Systems. We were able to garner exemplary performance in recycled content, regional materials, and waste management. Project credits are currently being submitted and reviewed by the USGBC in amounts targeting LEED PLATINUM Certification.
